Our first year of making this authentic, Solera-style Port began in 2002.
Solera is an ongoing blend that offers depth, character and complexity that we might not otherwise find in a particular vintage. Each new batch is carefully crafted using the authentic practices of Portugal to increase the ongoing blend by 10% each year.
The grapes are left on the vine to ripen as long as is possible, then handpicked, destemmed and a fermentation begins. When the natural sugars have been depleted to the 8% level, brandy is added and the skins are pressed. Although we have named her Ruby, as the years go on, she has moved toward a Tawny.
